Life goal: feel as cute as our dance studio

Life goal: feel as cute as our dance studio

“Gettin’ Fit” is a much cuter name (and even the name of my exercise board on Pinterest) but can I be honest? I am sick of fitness. I need to do a lot more than just lower my mile time (like walk a mile while not eating candy ((I don’t do that))). There always seems to be a lot of focus nowadays on getting into the best fitness of your life and I’m just not interested. Fitness is a thing that is usually more defined by body mass and I’d rather have something a little more sustainable than a percentage. Ok off of the soapbox now and back to the real world 😉

I told y’all I was going to start blogging more personally and here it comes with bells on. The last time I tried fitness updates it just didn’t stick. Kind of like a diet/not eating carbs. I also tried to train for a 5k and then hurt my ankle and it all got derailed. My VSG surgery almost 2 years ago was the jumpstart I needed, but that surgery only gets you so far. To make a change you really have to fix yourself. So here I am. Just a girl standing in front of a mirror talking to herself, asking the reflection to love her/stop being so dang stubborn about bad habits.

Rather than trying to get on a scale and use that to prove I’m healthy, I want to take strides towards fixing my destructive habits and create a more sustainable happiness in regards to my health. Getting back into dance has been a start. I used to dance all the time a few years ago (everything except for tap, that was always too loud for me) but stopped shortly after we moved to NC. It’s always been a real downer for me because I love dancing. But Andrew surprised me with lessons on our anniversary at one of the cutest studios I’ve ever been in and I couldn’t be any more pumped (except for how hard it was to find real ballroom dance shoes – I’m stuck in cute practice ballroom shoes for the foreseeable future). That’s just one way I’m working toward gettin’ health, so here are a few others :)

Goals

• Walk 3 miles 2x/week, increased to 3x/week after July 24. This will hopefully lead to being able to walk for 3 miles or more in places other than Disney without getting too tired.

• Keep dancing weekly and throw in 3x/week practices (at home or at the studio).

• I’d really like to find a progressional beginners yoga class, either online or somewhere local that isn’t too pricey (because dance classes ain’t cheap y’all).

• Get that 5k done October 3. I mean, Color Run has a medal now so I NEED to finish. Plus we paid for the entry fees already so my ankles better not get any funny ideas.

• Go full-on vegetarian except in extreme cases (like I’m on a cruise and they have a really good looking filet mignon).

• Eat healthier – not no pizza/treats ever, but certainly less. Work on getting my nutrition needs through a better alternative (like beans instead of protein powder when possible).

• Limit the candy to the movie theatre for the most part. I don’t eat it all that much anyway but the additional sugar is just too much for my tiny tummy to handle.

• Drink at least 64oz of water/day, aiming for 100oz/day. I do get at least 64/day, but I’d really like to up that number. Water weight, fear me.

• Stop weighing myself except at for at doctor’s offices because let’s be real, my knowing the exact weight I am is not something that will/won’t break me gettin’ health and all it really does is discourage me sometimes. Although I wouldn’t mind knowing when I’m finally in onederland 😉

• Have less “I hate myself and my body” days. To an extent there’s only so much I can do to avoid this, but I would love a little more self-acceptance in the Shantelle.

• Keep a better handle on updating MapMyFitness and using my fitbit. Or at least updating MapMyFitness because I cannot find a suitable solution to using my fitbit + a watch.

• Actually keep up with updates on these goals here – does anyone need an accountability partner?

Even just getting started on a healthier road the last few weeks I can see things happening. We’ve only just started ballroom lessons but I can already feel a difference in my stamina and myself. Going vegetarian has made both of us feel so much better tummy-wise. I’ve also found myself having a higher level of self-acceptance and feeling so much better about casa Shantelle. It’s like a whole new/old me. It’s crazy how just a few little changes can affect things so quickly!

Now, can anyone tell me a better/cuter way to use my fitbit flex other than the weirdly colored wristband or $200 Tory Burch cuteness?

Do y’all have any goals for yourself? Let me know in the comments and let’s keep each other accountable!

Wishing you all the movie theatre candy and cute ballroom shoes,

Shantelle
